    which one to buy

Hello i am an absolute beginer to learning russian and i was hoping to get to a modest level in a couple of months if that is possible. i was wondering if anybody could tell me which would be the best one of the following to buy or if you could tell me about any others, also how long it will take to learn russian if you practice 2-3 hours every day. Thank you

Are you looking only for software? If not, I highly recommend "Teach Yourself Beginner's Russian, an easy introduction" by Rachel Farmer. And, of course, "New Penguin Russian Course", by Nicholas J Brown. But I would definitely at least get an audio CD to go along witheither of these for pronunciation...

This is the book I used. I bought it at Borders bookstore for around $25 and it came with a dictionary and CDs. The dictionary sucked.
On a scale of 1-10, I would rate it a modest 4, but it is cheap.

I think learning a language depends more on the motivation of the learner rather than what learning materials are available.

You can spend a lot of money for Rosetta stone, but if you are not motivated, it will not help. I know a couple of people who have completed the Rosetta stone course and they cannot read or speak nearly as well as I.

Two to three hours a day for two months is not enough to learn a language.

Rosetta Stone builds your vocabulary really fast --(this was my favorite)--but you need to know how to read a little bit since it doesn't go over the letters or grammar or anything.

The best grammar book I think is New Penguin.

Pimsleur is really good and I would say more beginning than Rosetta Stone. You might be able to get it from the library and if you can I would do that first before Rosetta Stone.
