I'm trying to learn Russian. However I also have to take a language in high school and the best one available is German. So I was wondering how hard it would be to learn German at school and teach myself Russian in the few spare minutes I have each day. Also I was wondering if there were any good, affordable language programs available.

Not hard. It's exactly what i'm doing.

I've been in highschool german for 3 years, and learning russian for not even 2, and my russian is 1000x's better than my german (i still get an A in the class though, we have to remember, it's "america" standards.)

Pravit took French and german in school and tought himselfl ike 57 languages at home, and he did ok.

I wouldn't say it's the best one affordable but can be of a help though

Although it's nice to be described in such flattering terms, for the record, I only know Russian and German fairly well and I can scrape by in French if I have to. The other 57 languages(Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Thai, etc.) all ended either because I got bored or I couldn't find any good resources for learning them. So technically I was only able to learn one foreign language by myself.

I wonder how Jasper's doing with Chinese. He disappeared several months ago, ostensibly to return in a year's time with enough knowledge of Russian, Chinese, Pashto, Punjabi, Arabic, Vitjakki, and Somali to put me to shame.

BTW, I agree with Dogboy, should be no problem. If you keep up your Russian enough. Maybe 1-2 hours a day in the beginning stages? When I was beginning, I did put in an hour or so almost every day to get basics down. After that I kind of slacked off. But make sure that the learning is interesting to you, as opposed to learning 1-2 hours every day just to get the time in - you'd be bored rather quickly like that.

Im a pretty big nerd. But that website is waaay to nerdy for me.

Lol. I've seen that one before! I did the demo once. Even though it was weird, I remember the words! The pronunciation obviously is off, but I thought it was funny once I got the correct way to say them. And I wouldn't mind running my Kar-ova a cow...I can only imagine what the words that you pay for sound like!

If it wasn't clear from all the other posts, no, it's not a good site. Personally I think it's gimmicky rubbish.

I don't remember how I did it, but back when I was a senior in h.s. I was in my 4th year of Spanish when I started Russian I (in school, that is). There were some problems - I started pronouncing unstressed Spanish /o/ as /a/ (аканье), which my Spanish teacher noticed right away. Buenas dias! :^)

That's what I thought, but a friend of mine said that he used and that it worked well.
