Thread: Milestones

Having never learned a language, I'm wondering what milestones I can celebrate along the way from beginner to intermediate.
What accomplishments are worth noting? Day to day its hard to know if I'm gaining ground.
(first 100 words, being able to say a short sentence, tell a short story, read a paragraph, knowing all the verb endings, etc)

As I know from book about English, that 1500 words it's enough to have an everyday conversation.

When I was a kid at six I learned how to count from one to ten in English. It was my first experience in English. I was absolutely sure that it is a tremendous milestone and it is enough for me to travel and talk to people all over the world.

I can count to 10 in Russian. I suppose I should order my plane ticket.
