    Little help?

I have very recently started to learn Russian. It is difficult because I don't have a teacher at the moment. For practice, I've decided to try to write a personal introduction. Right now its very basic, but I intend to add onto it as I learn. Here's what I have:

    Меня зовут Кевин.
    Я живу в Америке.
    Mне восемнадцать лет
    Я студент.

Could you tell me if its correct? Thank you in advance.

    Thank you. I'll change it.

Could you explain that dash to me?

the dash basically takes the place of the verb "to be"

    These may help.

    Mне X лет - I am X years
    Я родился X - I was born on X day
Мой рост X см - I am X centimeters tall
    Вес – X кг - I am X kilograms in weight
Какая разница, умереть богатым или бедным?

Какой толк от богатства если ты не счастлив.

Ok, how do you pronounce it? Or is it silent when speaking?

    Я - студент.

Yes, it does, but not here. If the subject is a personal pronoun and the predicate is a noun in it's first form (don't know how it's called in English), you shouldn't use the dash. In a few cases you can use it, for example if there's an opposion in the sentence or you want to bring into focus the predicate, but in your case the dash doesn't fit. So

    Я студент.

    is better
