    Help!! I am totally lost!

------------------------------------------------------------------------I know how to write russian because I wrote a word and showed it to a russian guy in my class and he read it. I can't READ it. I can't make russian symbols on the computer but I can translate symbols into letters. One song I like is called Ya Shoshapa s uma. It is soposed to mean "all the things she said" If I write it it would look totally different. What am I doing wrong? I speak english and i'd do ANYTHING just to learn russian. Can someone help me? and one more question, I know there are two russian symbols that have no sound, why are they even there?? Please Reply!!!!!!!!

The song is called Ja soshla s uma. You should write it like this: Я сошла с ума. The two symbols in question are ь and ъ. They are hard and soft signs, and their purpose is to affect how consonants are pronounced. Please only post your questions in one forum, not 5. I don't mind answering questions, but having to enter the moderator panel for every forum to get rid of one spam is not fun.

Yes (or something close). But when they made an English version of the song, they named it "All The Things She Said". Apparently, just because this phrase "fits" withing the previous metric of the music.

Probably a few venereal diseases into the general populace. Other than that, I don't believe so.

lol... why are ours "letters" and theirs "symbols"

alphabet: letters which represent parts of a sound, put together to combine whole sounds and words. (Greek alphabet, Cyrillic alphabet, Latin alphabet, etc)

syllabary: symbols which represent whole sounds (syllables), put together to form words. (Katakana, Hiragana: the native Japanese script)

pictographs: symbols which represent whole words. (most infamous example being Chinese)

I know that im a little late, i have only just recently discovered this site. The song "Ya Soshla S Uma" does not mean All the things she said or i've lost my mind. It means "I Got Mad".
