Thread: Hello :-) Online tutor?

Hey all. Im from England and have quite an interest in Russian. Im spose to be learning it in my school next year but I dont wanna wait.

I know 2 words....Zdrasvtuit...and Spaseeba. And that is it xD

Russian in English schools? Can you tell more?

Well, my school is a normal english school. But my school classifies itself as a "language" college.

In the school you spend 5 years there. In the first years, 7 8 9, you learn one of these three languages - German, French, Spanish.

At the moment I learn french.

When you reach years 10 and 11, you get to pick another language of YOUR choice. You get these offered to you - Italian, Japanese and Russian : )

So there you go. Im in year 9 at the moment, and next year I will be learning Russian!

I suggest step one would be to learn the alphabet and how the letters are pronounced. You should find the alphabet relatively easy to learn. Try this link alphabet
Here are a few useful phrases

Russian grammar is the most difficult of all the languages I have studied. Unlike other romance languages there are 3 genders - masculin, feminin AND neuter. There are also 6 cases which affect the form of a word.

The endings of words change based on case and plurality.
For example, these are the different forms of the word "cat" (кошка).
кошка (Именительный падеж единственного числа)
кошки (Родительный падеж единственного числа)
кошке (Дательный падеж единственного числа)
кошку (Винительный падеж единственного числа)
кошкой,кошкою (Творительный падеж единственного числа)
кошке (Предложный падеж единственного числа)
кошки (Именительный падеж множественного числа)
кошек (Родительный падеж множественного числа)
кошкам (Дательный падеж множественного числа)
кошек (Винительный падеж множественного числа)
кошками (Творительный падеж множественного числа)
кошках (Предложный падеж множественного числа)

P.S. Just remember once and for all that зимою=зимой. Just memorize it, you'll understand in time.
