Thread: Free websites with phonetic translations?

Hello-

I am just learning the language and was wondering if anyone can recommend websites/books that provide phonetic translations? I do not know the Russian alphabet, and while I plan on learning it, I would like to find a resource on the web that provides phonetic translations (like the Word of the Day pronunciation on MasterRussian.com). Any suggestions?

You'd be better off just learning the alphabet before you even start working on vocabulary. The phonetic explanations written in Latin characters are never going to be quite accurate, as numerous sounds exist in Russian which aren't adequately expressed thus. Seriously, just sit down and memorize the alphabet. It'll take you, like, two hours, tops.

Just think of Cyrillic as an amazing new phonetic transliteration system specially designed for Russian and written with strange characters.
