    Fantastic website!

Just thought I'd reccoment to those who haven't been there already:
    http://www.languages-on-the-web.com
They provide entertaining bilingual short stories between english and many languages including Russian, which are great to see the language in useage, and simple enough to not prove too deep a challenge.

    Check the place out.

    Err...

Hmmm normally when I visit certain Russian websites I have to change my encoding to "Cyrillic(KOI8-R)" or any other of the variety given, but even when my encoding is set to Western European, the Cyrillic fonts show up just fine.

For some reason this site uses a WordPerfect font called CyrillicA. I cannot find a site for you to download it from, so I uploaded it from my computer. http://drlight.multics.org/russian/Wpro10na.ttf I will assume you know how to install new fonts.

The official answer is: KOI8-R is the standard for Cyrillic (only Russian) encoding and people on non-Windows computers may have trouble reading what you write. The unofficial answer is: Mac and most Unices can read CP-1251 and there are plenty of programs to convert it to KOI8-R, so it doesn't matter. It is more or less a decision of whether you want to support Microsoft's proprietary technology or not. If you need to read something written in CP-1251 in KOI8-R, or vice versa, there is a site here that allows you to enter text in one or the other.

The problem is that that site uses neither KOI8-R neither CP-1251 nor ISO8859-5. Instead it uses an encoding specific to that font...

Yes, that's a good point. All right, here is the first one for anyone that still can't see that website:

Someone else can do the others.
