Thread: Cyrillic keyboard touch typing exercizes.

Hello, Cyrillic keyboard students;

Below are some Cyrillic touch typing exercises. Useful before you get to deep into Russian. These are common initial and final letter triplets.

Like tha the thi tho and ing ough tion in English. This list can be cut down, but is useful since it covers lots of Russian usage. List is not perfect, other initial and final triplets exist, like case endings, and verb endings. If you know of other common triplets, please add a reply below. More endings could be added. Two goals here: learn keyboard and common keystroke combinations. Quadruplets could be done (e.g. ство), but this will get you started. Need more examples with щ .

Type each line five times. Move page margins so that each row fits on one line. Exceptions are с and п rows that are two lines. No need to go over half an hour in each session. Work on the rows you need. Rearrange rows as you please.

Also need some more ю exercises. And I forgot ф and э exercises, and it looks like there are some other points that need fixing.

Oh well. Leave a comment and I'll gradually improve the list. Also working on combined preposition + pronoun + cases touch typing exercise. Goal is to drive the prepositions pronouns and cases in to memory all at once in a way that makes recall and reproduction relatively automatic.

I'll incorporate corrections into the above post.

When I was in college I had to type on a Cyrillic keyboard and never got very good at it. Many years later I decided that I did not want to go through that again, so I bought a key mapper. Nowadays there is a good homophonic keyboard that I use called Russian for Gringos, which you can get for free here: http://www.aatseel.org/windows_cyrillic .

Is this the YaWert phonetic keyboard? It's basically cheating, but I use it anyway...

One of these days I'll have to learn a standard keyboard (and beef up my handwritten Russian, which is piss-poor at the moment).

My handwriting in English is about the same. Used to try writing calligraphy, but the computer has all but killed any meager skills I had at that.
