    Columbo,

First of all... I guess I should state that I am a non-drinker (and non-smoker for that matter) as I was an athlete growing up and for most of my youth I was getting up at 4 am for practice and now days I am on medication that if I drink I would end up in a hospital so… I have never had the pleasure of drinking, let alone binge drinking.

So, I just don't understand this behavior at all and as the article stated it seems as though it is mainly a British thing. Can you shed any light on why? With two girls getting ready to be prime for peer pressure, I could use understanding in this area!

What is the drinking age there? Is it by city? Is it enforced at all? Is there a last call time? What is the draw for this behavior? Is it a right of passsage? Can you help me to understand????

Also, the next time my girls mention how cute an English accent is ... I'll show them these photos!!!
I only speak two languages, English and bad English.

It's not complicated. The general idea is to go out, get drunk, have a laugh with your mates, have a dance, and hopefully get laid.

The trouble is the 'get drunk' bit. Over some time (the problem isn't new, it's been steadily growing for decades) 'get drunk' seems to have morphed into 'get as drunk as you can handle', and if you have 5000 people in a city centre all trying to get as drunk as they can handle you're inevitably going to get dozens, possibly even hundreds, who end up more drunk than they can handle. No one goes out with the express intention of falling asleep in a puddle of his own vomit or spending the night in the A&E getting her face stitched up, those are just occupational hazards.

Re: a night out in england

it doesnt help that all the bars and clubs are located in relatively small areas which just means more fights and disgusting stuff all going on at once in a concentrated area. when i used to hit the town center a few years back it didnt bother me, now when im home i cant stand going down there (for nights out). it's just like what you saw in those pictures. much prefer the moscow nightlife scene (apart from face control!)
i dont know whether you'd see that type of scene in london, but it's depressing as hell, thats for sure
