Thread: Тугое мясо

Я вчера выучил новое слово и сопровождающее его выражение.

Слово - тогой

Разговаривая с приятелем я слышал данное заявление - <<такое мясо очень тугое>>. Я понял что он имел в виду от контекста, но до тех пор никога этого слова ни слышал в своих разгoворах. Кажется что в этом случае, слово тугой значит <<tough>> - в смысле <<очень трудно жевать.>>

После того, как я вернулся домой, я включил свой компютер, пошел в инет и нашел сказанное слово с данным сопровождающим виражением - Тугой на ухо - которое значит <<hard of hearing (deaf or near deaf).>> Мне было интересно найти такое выражение и поэтому решил я разделить его с вами.

According to Ozhegov's dictionary, the basic literal meaning of тугой is "taut", "pulled tight", "stiffly elastic", "stretched to its limits", etc.

Thus, a properly inflated basketball could be called a тугой мяч; a stiff metal spring (but not a Slinky!) would be a тугая пружина. A тугой чемодан is an overstuffed suitcase. And a wealthy man may be said to have a тугой кошелёк -- a wallet so fat it's about to split open.

P.S. Although тугой can be used to describe a spring (пружина), or other things that are physically elastic (упругий), the phrase тугой человек does NOT mean someone "with a mind like a steel trap"! (о том, у кого ум быстр, как стальной капкан на пружине)

This is something new in Russian.

"Тугой" can be applied to a process and it means that process is going slowly and needs essential efforts to go on ("дело идет туго"). There is word тугодум (from туго + думать) which indeed means "slow thinker" but the word тугой by itself is not applicable to a person (unless it is some kind of rare slang).

There is also a word of the same root, which you can find interesting - "тужиться".

And BTW I never met a phrase "тугое мясо". Usually they say "жесткое мясо". If I'd hear "тугое мясо" without context I can guess that it is a street slang containing a compliment about some female shapes.

Hmmm... maybe I misunderstood vikislovar? It gives a number of usage examples from Russian literature, but only with the short form туг.

Интересно, может быть я не расслышал.... ну и бывает в кухне женское мясо первого сорта то и дело.

В основном говорю так друзьям, после того как пытаешься им что-то объяснить, а они долго не понимают.. Последнюю попытку объяснить заканчивает фраза = "Вы что? тугие?"

Actually, yes thinking back on the conversation, what very well might have been said was "сухое" ... oh well, learned a lot of new things so its all good.

Word тугой (tight) is used in Russian. often teenagers use this word.
This is lite insult. maybe like a stupid in English. I use this word when I joke with my friends.

Obscenities are not acceptable here.

моугхт - это что за слово такое? И вообще, непонятно даже со словарём что вы хотели сказать.
