    Russian "L"

Where does the Russian non-soft "L" fall? Even un-palatalized it sounds a tad squashed.

It sounds like it also involves the throat a bit.

Having trouble getting it out, for some reason. The Arabic "L" is never palatalized, that may be the reason. And English "L" isn't *quite* on par, I think.

Food for thought: My Arabic interferes more in Russian acquisition than my L1 English. I think that's where my trouble is with this "L"; Arabic L is mostly always a flap, the throat passive.

Digging up an old thread, but I have a question. To me, the "L" in russian always sounds like the "L" i am used to in English. In Bulgarian, however, it often gets softened to sound almost like a "W", especially in the middle of words. If you've ever heard a Bulgarian speak english, you can get a laugh out of this phrase:

"We went camping and roasted marshmawwows."

Anyway, the point is...does Russian ever do this with the "L"s?

(I don't mean to offend anybody, I just thought it was funny when I heard my wife say this once.)

I didn't think so. And I'm glad...it's rather annoying, in my opinion.

The Polish L is so too. Just like English W.

Polish Ł to be exact, yes, it does sound a lot like English "w" in "window". L sounds more or less like Eng "L" :P

Я эту штуку так называю. Если писать "рукописными" буквами, то похоже.

Я тоже не знаю. Однако есть фонетический l с крючочком, как письменный.

So you're just saying that you forgot to put the little hooky-thingy on the "L"?

It's not a hook. The hook is on the letters ą ę. The Ł has a bar through it.

Ok, I don't know, if it is hook or not, I just named it "крючок" and said that если писать "рукописными" буквами, то похоже [на крючок]. And that я эту штуку так называю.

No, there is only ONE suffix, "-очек".
