    thank you etc

When commending a person for helping you, for example in english if i was saying "Great, thanks", would it be "отлична спасибо", what i mean is, does it make sense, im not looking for it to translate properly, its just ive heard something similar said by Russian's in media and i have wondered what it means.

    Отлично, спасибо = Great, thanks
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

Here it is adverbial. Отлично=greatly, excellently, perfectly. Adverbials do not inflect in Russian.

There is also short form of adjective "отличный" = different (from): (отличен, отлична, отлично).

is great interchangable with excellent? (what its listed as in my dictionary)?
They may be synonyms, right? Almost each word can be used in different meanings. And a word from one language rarely has exactly the same set of meanings as a word from another language.
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?
