Thread: The pronunciation of "щ"

Привет всем! I've been listening to some Russian CD's in which a word is given in Russian followed by the English translation (or vice versa). To me, it sounds like this speaker is pronouncing her щ's strangely. They sound almost like a "стч" combination. Does it sound odd to native speakers?

BTW, the words are:

почтовый ящик - mailbox
в помещении - indoors
в общем - altogether
спящий - asleep
защищённый - protected

Yes. There is an accent. The щ's are strange.

you must to press tongue more strengthly to palate.
