Thread: Pronounce ending of четыре

I think i've heard the last syllable of this word pronounced differently.

A slight "a" sound, maybe like "che-teihr-eeah" (example from Lampada)

Verus:

A short и sound "che-teihr-ee" (can't find an example audio clip)

Does that make sense? Is this just accent? Is there a "correct" way?

Both variants are acceptable.

Иканье — незразличение произношения [Е] и [И] в безударных слогах (аналогично аканью). Типичный московский говор — произносить что-то близкое к [И] ("cheе-teih-ree"). Отсюда происходит огромная куча проблем у школьников с правописанием букв Е и И.

I learned it this way "che-teihr-ee". Short and sweet. If that helps any.
