    как по вашему ?

Hiya everyone, how are you all...how cool is "Loras Dialogues" site for us numbskull learners.

как по вашему (kak po vash-ehm-oo)?..."what do you think?",then please what would the next phrase say,and how would I pronounce it....как по твоему??...am I correct in thinking both mean the same thing, like in England we would ask,"what do you think?" or "what would you reckon?"

Also, having learned that спросить,means to ask a person something,am I right in thinking that попросить means to ask for an object?

    As usual,a thousand thank yous..

You're right on, Johnnydrum! The only difference between по-вашему and по-твоему is formality level. And I used Lora's dialogs a couple years ago, they're certainly a great resource IMO!

    Kak pa-tva-ye-moo

    The answer would be: По-моему....
I think they are hyphenated. Как по-вашему / Как по-твоему.

    or for a favour even.

So are спросить and попросить both perfective forms of просить?

    Different shades of meaning though:

просить/ попросить - to request/ ask (for smth)

    спрашивать/ спросить - to inquire/ ask (a question)

    (AFAIK)

просить/ попросить - Can this also mean to beg?

IMHO "to beg" is closer to "попрошайничать" or "просить подаяния"

As in "I implore/beg you, do this."

Yes, "implore" is a synomous with "beg", but умолять is directly translated to "implore" and not to "beg". Only difference being that "implore" is a specific shade of "beg"... just felt the necessity to point that out.

Kalinkachen, Kalinkachen, dictionaries are not always right, and while I hate it when people say "there are no exact translations"(because there are, just not for every word), there are certainly not exact translations for everything. Dictionaries can only give us an approximate equivalent in our own language for many cases. My Lingvo, BTW, lists "beg" before "implore" in the entry for умолять.

I know, I was only joking about the dictionary, Pravitchen!

The point was that there are so many words for "beg" that the more accurate definition of умолять is to implore, which means to ask or beg earnestly for... but if it scratches your back to think of it as plain "to beg", I implore you to keep thinking that!

So we're back to my original question: how is a more accurate definition "implore"?

Мне стыдно, но я должна признаться, что, хотя и встречала это слово, до сих пор не знала, что implore значит умолять. Также не знала, что supplicate и entreat это молить, просить.
    Зато теперь знаю.

Imploring does not always involve a hand motion. As far as I'm concerned it's impossible to say that умолять has an exact, direct translation either implore or beg. It probably means something in between the two.
