I tried using the online translator for my nickname, which is a color. (Blue) I received this as my translation:
Синий
I have two questions.
1. Is this the best way to translate the English word "blue"?
2. How is it pronounced, correctly?

синий is dark blue.
голубой is light blue.
I tried putting them into a google images search to show you the difference but when I looked up голубой I got some other rather unpleasant images instead.... Maybe it's not a good idea to call yourself голубой.
голубой in Russian has the added connotation of "gay".

Голубой - сленговое слово, обозначающее гомосексуалиста. Настолько распространено, что и небо уже голубым без задней мысли назвать боишься :lol:
Так же как в английском слово gay изначально значило "весёлый", а теперь - то же самое.
touch of blue - даже затрудняюсь подобрать эквивалент - что-то вроде "слегка синий".
Есть слово "синеватый", но это переводится как blueish :)

I think this is pretty standard all over Ukraine (not sure about the West though), not just Odessa. Although I've never heard the word 'aubergine' before today, here in the Midwest it's normally called eggplant.Quote:
