Hanna, Luzhkov, depite his faults, was a good mayor at the beginning. He did many things for which Moscow will remain grateful to him, regardless of his corruption. In Russia, every official is corrupt, you simply cannot function as one without being such. He's been elected 4 times in a row (1996, 1999, 2003, 2007), gaining 88,5 %, 69,9 %, 74,8 % accordingly and 32 из 35 votes in Moscow City Duma in 2007. This counts for something. I voted for him.
Still, the present situation in Moscow, of course, has reached the point when corruption of such a large scale simply could not be tolerated any more, neither by ordinary people not by the federal government. He should have left in 2008.
When NTV (owned by Gazprom) started a campain against him this summer I understood that he was finished because this campaign had not been possible without approval of our beloved president.
Presently I approve of his dismissal even though I'm a little bit anxious about who's going to succeed him. Leaving Resin in place would be considered a mockery.
