    You go, Russia!!!!

DOHA, Qatar - Former Chechen President Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev was assassinated in an explosion that destroyed his car Friday, the Qatari government said.

"Yandarbiyev was the main ideologue of the separatists, and therefore of the terrorist organizations bringing Chechnya to such severe consequences," said the president of the Moscow-backed Chechen government, Akhmad Kadyrov.

The Russian Embassy in Doha had no immediate comment on the killing.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.

On the subject of КГБ, isn't it true they're trying to ban ex-communists from gaining access to top government jobs? Why? And more importantly: wasn't Путин a spy for the КГБ? So shouldn't he be removed from his position?

Why? I don't get that. Wasn't George Bush I a member (or the head of?) the CIA?

Yeah well, but the CIA has always been 'capitalistic'. The KGB was communist once, and I believe that Putin was a spy at that very time...

Кстати, there are MANY intelligence agencies in the U.S. besides the CIA that conduct similar affairs.

National Security Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, National Reconnaissance Office, Military intelligence in all branches of the U.S. military (Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, Coast Gaurd),FBI (somewhat), National Geospatial Intelligence Agency....

I think I am forgetting a few, but you get the point. Don't know if that is well known in Europe.

Everything here is a ridiculous. Just about everybody in the current Russian government may be considered ex-communist. Those guys did not just appear in the govt out of the blue, they had been making their careers for decades, and less than two decades ago being a communist was a necessary pre-requisite for starting a career. That does not mean they actually believed in communism.

Everybody in the KGB were communists. You simply had to be one to join that organization. So your statement amounts to having them chase themselves. That does not make any sense, does it?

Finally, the fact that Putin worked for the KGB does not mean anything in particular. Why does that make him unfit for presidency? According to the Russian constitution, any Russian national, subject to age restrictions, may run for and be elected President.

Wasn't Putin more administrator than 'spy' when with the КГБ/ФСБ?
    А если отнять еще одну?

I have heard similar things about Putin's early days in КГБ. At this time, I guess he was stationed in East Germany, a little outside Berlin. Some sort of desk job. No assination assignments or undercover infiltration stuff.
However, from what I have heard in interviews with Putin he was not drawn to service in КГБ because of the excitment associated with espionage. He says it was a sense of patriotism and longing to serve his country, as opposed to ambitions of a 'mondo Bondo' type job.

It's funny. You watch an interview with Putin and if you did not know who he was prior, you may take him for just an average Joe. You may even ask aloud... "what is this guy doing on T.V.!?!?!?"

But the man can speak three languages fluently, is some kind of grand master at Judo, post-graduate degree in economics, constantly focused on objectives...... etc. etc etc.

In other words, he is the perfect spy.

I didn't make any statement. I was just telling you what I heard. I heard that communists were being banned from governmental positions, and I was just wondering if they were just a bunch of hypocrits or not.

Well, it can be said for sure that there are no present-day communists in the govt; similarly, there is a bunch of ex-communists in both the govt and the FSB -- which is why what you heard is so ridiculous.

So now you know that your sources of information weren't reliable.

First, which communists do you mean? If "former" communists (members of CPSU), then almost anybody older than 35 was member of CPSU in Soviet times. Including Putin, of cause. Where is hypocrisy here?

If you're talking about "modern" communists (members of CPRF), I don't think there's much of them in government. But their presence in Duma always was serious.

I am sure you meant "of course." Otherwise, you may come off as Col. Sanders. "of cause" is how someone from south of mason dixon would prounounce of course. I am imagining a Russian guy in a colonel sanders outfit..... My, that would mean the ultimate proliferation of American culture... I sure hope I never see such a site on the streets of Новгород!

BS! Almost nobody but the guys who wanted to be in govt or "big bosses" - directors of works and factories or some army officers or KGB never were members of CPSU.

Not "anybody", but anybody related to authority or government structures. Sorry for missing this point.
