Let me be honest, I'm against the ideology of Charles Manson and Adolf Hitler. Primarily because my own ideology is different. I'm pretty sure a typical Muslim would say the Western ideology is no better than Mein Kampf. However, there is a universal rule of "to spread or not to spread" - the MEANS. There are the legitimate means and the illegitimate means. Adolf Hitler had legitimately won in his country. Had Jews been allowed to leave Germany and settle somewhere else, the tragedy as we know it would never have happened.
So, if you ask me whether Muslims can try spreading Islam, I would say I'm not against it (not that I want to accept it). But that should be double-sided and Muslims should not be against me spreading my ideology to them (not that they would want to accept it too). The only condition - the means should be legitimate. The modern Islamic terrorist practice of killing innocent civilians as well as the recent US warfare in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, and Iraq in order to "restore/establish the democracy" are both the illegitimate means of spreading the ideology.
