I believe for the last 60 years distance between Russia and the US has been measured with the range of intercontinental missiles far too often. People in both countries were under illusion that they supposed to hate each other and governments of both countries surely want to keep people busy thinking about something distant rather than local

I think there's a difference between how the politicians act, and how the average US or Russian citizen feels. We can do our part not to let the cynicism creep in and control us. We should be mindful of who we elect, and their positions on foreign relations. Trouble is, the choices are slim.

Are you suggesting to vote for independent candidate? Because both parties see Russia as an enemy and I didn't hear much opposing arguments(actually none) on the US news about that either. And hating the US is not only Russian thing it becomes international fashion novadays.

Well, my personal political views are much closer to the right than to the left. Therefore, I would prefer to see a dominant Republican majority in Congress and a Democrat President. So, my choice for the US President is Obama.

If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal.

I respectfully disagree with that. The National Socialist German Workers Party was legitimately elected in free elections. In Germany that had changed, I think, just enough to qualify for 'anything'.

I agree with your Crocodile...voting isn't a useless exercise to me. It does make a difference.

0.7 mile bike ride to the polls. Easy parking next to the door.
2 minute wait in line. Checked in by my 1973-74 Cub Scout Den Mother.
Voted. More concerned with state Senate race Brown/Warren. (The former "Ted Kennedy Seat") The Senate controls more than the Prez.
    Checked out at 2:35. I was # 1546 / 3592 in my precinct.
    Rode home. Half hour total.

I wouldn't worry too much about Romney's gay/women issues. Remember, he was Governor of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Boston TV is reporting 1% reported results from New Hampshire. Polls close in 10 minutes in MA.

I'm going to watch a move.

No more ads on TV or those damn Robo-Calls.

    Awesome MAD magazine image!

    And of course, this classic:

    And, especially for 14Russian:

rmoney 100 dollar bill sign by LibertyManiacs, on Flickr

(There are, like, ten dozen versions of the "Rmoney" parody without the "Obama O", for all the Yaller Dog Democrats out there -- so I appreciated this non-partisan, YOU ARE ALL PATHETIC SHEEPLE!!!! variant...)

I am watching "The Daily Show's" live election coverage! Because Jon Stewart and his team of comedian correspondents are always far more informative (and accurate!) than our "news media"!
Вот потому, что вы говорите то, что не думаете, и думаете то, что не думаете, вот в клетках и сидите. И вообще, весь этот горький катаклизм, который я здесь наблюдаю, и Владимир Николаевич тоже…

$6B U.S. election shows why we should starve the campaign-spending beast | Full Comment | National Post

I don't care for this paper/source but the article is quite decent.

Too bad, one can't discuss (political) issues on here, though. You'd think that with a forum with people learning a foreign language, the people would be smarter.

How so? Because of the thoughtful responses to the videos posted? Because of the logical rebuttals to the assertion of a 6 billion dollar election cost?

Why do you even come here, 14? This is a language forum. We study Russian! If you want to argue about politics or conspiracy theories there are plenty of forums where you can do that! I mean really, your argumentative nature is not helping your cause.
