    Spies ;-)

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...s-2013400.html

Wow, how shocking; Russia and the US spy on each other!!!
    Who would have guessed?

The interesting thing about it is the timing of the "revelation" about the eleven spies, just after the successful meeting of the heads of state.

The Evening Standard (main London evening paper) suggests that some people in the US Foreign department wanted to sabotage the recently improved relationship.

Another interesting thing about it were the ALLEGED mission of the spies: To intercept "policy-making" circles in the USA.
    Talk about non-specific objectives!

The rest of the information about the spies read like a bad spy novel from ca 1975. And 110% there is just as much spying going the other direction! Everyone's spying on everyone else nowadays!

That dancing girl is making eyes at me, I'm sure she's working for the K.G.B.
(Chris de Burgh, Moonlight and Vodka)

This makes sense indeed, we can expect that the equal amount of American spies will be caught as soon as Medvedev returns home. Both countries were always trying to get even for exposed spies.

I love one of the comments from Lampada's link:

Imagine an overheard conversation between a tall African American ('B') and a slim, foreign sounding guy ('D') in a DC burger joint:

'B': "Thanks for the help with the Middle East stuff at the UN 'D', especially as we kept the Kyrgyzstan thing so quiet between us. We are working well together, don't you think? Now how about something to make me look good in front of the cameras and take everyone's mind off that oil spill down south?, Nothing of any importance, but well, you know, you scratch my back?"
'D': "Well, I don't have much 'B', but... Oh! hold on, there are some useless mouths at the SVR who have gone native, and...."

The goals of the alleged spies couldn't be more vague. It doesn't sound like they've actually accomplished much and they aren't even being charged with espionage. I do wonder what sort of agenda is at play given the timing just after Medvedev's visit. I don't think that this is that big of a deal on either end, though.

I agree, their goals don't look so 'unique':

"...and send intels". Ugh.. Thank you, Captain Obvious.
Could they mention this before they sent them to "spy", without sending nonsensical and incriminating messages???

PS. Вся эта история напоминает анекдоты про Штирлица.

Haha, that picture proves it! That woman is a real threat to the free world. She must be stopped and her "accomplice" the Cookie Monster too!!!

Apparently she worked at a stockbrokers in New York and even had a LinkedIn page....
    ---------------------------
It was quite interesting to read in todays' paper about the lives of these people in the US. It seems that they did a lot of very ordinary things, and very little spying.

There must be just as many American spies in Russia, so I'm surprised Russia doesn't reveal a few of them to kick back.

But what's the deal with their English names? If someone has an English name, then you'd expect them to speak completely accent-free English!

    ---------------------------------------------------------
If I was Russian intelligence, I'd use some of these hot Russian programmers who have access to IT systems across Europe and probably in the US too. If every 1 out of 100 Russian programmers working abroad was really a spy, they'd be all sorted with no need to worry about people like these "spies".

Just put in some Trojan or backdoor, or simply copy the relevant data, et voila! There is such a shortage of really good programmers that nobody would ask any questions about their background and full data access is needed for most projects so any requests for that would be completely normal too.

British military systems security (at least some of it) are very accessible.

I say, it's a very creative disguise for a secret agent! Why use those old-fashioned fake moustache, sunglasses, etc? They could be easily removed from a photo using modern computer technologies.

So that is the kind of policy circles that the 'spies' are infiltrating! We are in big trouble! All the children that have been watching Sesame street will all be brain washed by them!

This all could be very amusing, but wait, I remembered something:

American government executed these two for espionage. And was not all that long ago.

It was supposed that they gave away plans for an atomic bomb to USSR (later it was proved that it was untrue). Nowdays American goverment executes and going to execute whole countries who supposedly trying to obtain the bomb.
