    Bush attacks Lenin!

I was by chance listening to the radio and I heard this quote from Mr. George Bush:

"Bin Laden and his terrorist allies have made their intentions as clear as Lenin and Hitler before them. The question is: Will we listen? Will we pay attention to what these evil men say?"

What's wrong with Lenin? He probably was thinking of Stalin (a very common western notion that Stalin was evil). I have a neutral view on Lenin, does anybody think Lenin is evil???

This quote was from a speech, so it was obviously scripted and was put there on purpose, not a bush-ism.

Well, it's a very common western notion all communists are evil (and btw all people in the USSR were communists).

Ever hear of the Cheka? That might have something to do with it. Nothing like a few tens of thousands of executions to make a guy feel swell! And that's to say nothing of the slave labor and famine due to incompetent/insensitive policies. So yeah, I'd say that Lenin wasn't exactly a boy scout. And yes, I know: there was a very nasty civil war and there were plenty of atrocities committed by both sides. It doesn't make it right.

With that being said, this is just something stuck in by a speech-writer. Hitler created the Nazi regime, bin Ladin came up with this Al Qaeda crap, but Stalin inherited his, so it made more artistic sense to throw the founder of the Soviet state in there instead. I think you can really only argue Lenin: slightly less evil than Stalin. Quasi-evil. Semi-evil. The margarine of evil. The Diet Coke of evil--just one calorie, not evil enough. Or something like that.

hehe. But Lenin really only had less than 5 years of power. While Stalin had over 30! I seriously doubt how much evil Lenin could commit in that short of time, especially when the bolsheviks weren't in full control of the country yet. I mean Lenin even introduced the NEP which was actually helping the peasants and prevented famine!

I think it's very possible it could be a Bushism...not trying to make a political statement or a statement on his intelligence, and I cringe saying this as he is my president, but they are both foreign names that end with "in." He's done worse before, so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that he actually meant Stalin. I mean, he's said Mexico was in the United States before, and he was governor of Texas!!

I heard the speach and this is the way I took it. As an indictment of ideologies and not a comparison of personalities.

President Bush said the world had paid a terrible price for ignoring the writings of Hitler and Lenin, and should not do the same with al-Qaeda.
Let me be a free man, free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade where I choose, free to choose my own teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to talk, think and act for myself. - Chief Joseph, Nez Perce

Вы все ошибаетесь. Беда наверно в том, что Буш имел в виду "John Lennon".

Stalin is the best learner of Lenin.
Some people think Lenin was good but Stalin distort Lenin's ideas.

Stalin only the most successively developed Lenin's ideas indeed.

So did Ben Laden just write a book?

Which part of his significant writings produced in relative obscurity did I miss?

I agree. All those people were worth each other, and Stalin was far from being the worst of the bunch.

Killing off the rest of the "leninskaya gvardiya" was one of the very few things we can actually praise Stalin for. Interestingly the denunsation of Stalin's atrocities during perestroika started with bringing up 1937-38, which was when those suckers got what they justly deserved.

So bringing up Lenin was quite logical, and anyone who doubts it should read a few pages about Cheka.

    Yes, indeed. =)
    There is for what...

    Code:
As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and T.V.
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

    (c) John Lennon
