    immigration

russian's birth rate is crazily low. aids is killing a lot. a positive demography is one of the keys to wellness and growth. all experts say that the solution lies in immigration.
do you think immigration to russia (mainly from chinese, mongolians and people from the cis) is a good or a bad thing?

remember europe as a whole has to face the same problems and is as reluctant as russia to open the gates to aliens (which i think is a major foolishness, see what happens in the us!).

Limited immigration would probably be a good thing, but open immigration is not a good idea. My brother is in a relationship with a Swede and she says the liberal immigration into her home city of Malmo has caused many problems..

Wow, GKnight, as long as your brother's girlfriend says so, it must be true! I am sure it is alot more complicated than just blaming it on immigration.

It ain't so bad, people are just xenophobic in the world. They see immigration as a threat to their culture.

I don't claim to have first hand knowledge in the situation in Malmo, but I have seen what immigration has done in areas of my country, such as Miami, Texas, Arizona, and California. It's not seen as a cultural threat here since there are so many different cultures already present - it's the criminal attitudes of some of the people crossing the border who have no respect for the country they're entering.

I, myself, am from scandinavia (Norway) and we have this discussion alot over there. The fact is that we do a way to poor job in integrating the people into our society, so they become outcasts and commit crimes. Immigration per se is not bad, but acutally necessary in order to fill jobs (especially the lower paid ones).

People don't come to a country with criminal intent (mostly), especially if they are refugees. But if the poeple won't accept them, won't give them a chance of being an equal, treat them differently, one word racism, they start resorting to this. It's kind of a vicious circle.

And there is alot of racisim, subtle, not kukluxing, but definitely racism in ALL societies.

Wow! I don't even know where to begin. I reside in a large Texas city where Anglos are the minority. I emigrated here from Ireland, so I know a little about this.
Contrary to GKnight's opinion that 'it's not seen as a cultural threat here since there are so many different cultures already present'....That is exactly how it is seen by many Anglo people. Of course, GKnight may not see it that way, and the general opinion of people in Florida may be very different from what it is in Texas. I do not presume to know GKnight's personal feelings, but I feel safe in assuming that Florida opinions aren't too generally different from those I find in Texas.

I cannot count the number of times I have heard Texans express the opinion that they '....just don't like that culture." Which is euphimistic-speak for saying, "They just ain't as good as whites Americans." Need I say that this a common opinion stated by some concerning Mexican immigrants to the country? The same opinion is common whether the immigrants are legal ones or not. It is even sometimes stated in reference to Mexican-Americans whose American citizenship goes back for generations.
As to, "the criminal attitudes of some of the people crossing the border who have no respect for the country they're entering", the vast majority of those crossing the border come here to make money they cannot make in Mexico. Some, a tiny minority, are real criminals. The others are doing something that, to them, is not really 'criminal' at all. They are merely going a place where they can make money for their families.
Immigrants to this country add much more to this culture than they subtract. They perform labor that Americans usually just will not do and they pay taxes on their wages. They pick the crops that otherwise would either rot or become so expensive no one could afford to buy them. Then they are told to go back, we really don't want you here.
Not seen as a cultural threat?????? Think again.

Kick their asses back to where they came from, and let's try it all over again. My new solution: only let attractive young women immigrate!!!!!

Sh!t, well whatever happans, I want to settle down in Russia in 20 years, and does it even matter what the immigration policy is? Hell... I'll sneak in illegally with my Irish passport if I have to. And if I get deported back to Ireland, so be it, at least I'll have a great story to tell!!

Sorry to say that I feel immigration is only a temporary solution for mentioned problems. The long term negative effects seem to far outweigh the short term positive ones. Do not wish to sound xenophobic, which of course, some people will call it again. But be honest and look at the countries where the same has already happened in the past. Most of these countries would definitely make different choices now if they could do it all over again. I am not saying people cannot come in, but have it based on the same cultural background or temporary basis only.

it is vital to let aliens work on russian territory.

I'd continued that phrase like this:
it is vital to let aliens work on russian territory instead of us. That would solve all our problems

Иммиграция оправданная только если иммигранты готовые отдавать народу (Америка, Россия, и т.д.).

    i liked your reply Jon!

well, immigration firstly is for the benefit of the immigrant, secondly comes the benefit of the country depending on its economy.

in my country, Oman, and the region around it
we have one of the highest immigration rate in the world
the city if Dubai (4 hours from the capital of Oman)
89% of the city is immigrants! can u believe this!?
only 11%! are citizens (and most of them are not from origin!)

about what happening in usa; i think its not because of immigration.
because in usa there are immigrants from all over the world, the government cant stop them!
the problem in usa is with those who jump from the border are come to the u.s. illigally. most of them are from mexico, the u.s. wants to build a wall between mexico and u.s.a and thats what is causing the problem!

about the russian economy, i am relly interested.
i heard about the chinese community which is pretty big in russia that comes for work? do u have any forther details?

in the poll, i selected "fix our problems first" because immigration is not a bad thing as long as its used correctly!

Yes we have problems in Australia over our immigration policies. The muslims are not mixing well with the rest of Australians and have been causing riots and hanging around in groups at our beaches calling the Australian girls "sluts" as they walk down to the sand for wearing only a bathing suit. They have even had our police on the run at times. There have also been major arrests on muslim terrorists groups lately.
It would be a mistake for Russia to follow the Wests example.

LOl, you should let in the Asians rather than the Muslims like here in NZ. They are calm and cool as and even though a lot of them don't assimilate to well they are respectful of the country. At my high school 25% of the students were Asian (15% were Korean). You don't see them getting involved in riots or anything...
