How many adults think having a gun is important? Because of our government and our slouching towards socialism, if not fascism, I plan to buy a gun-something I never wanted to do. It would only be a 22. It would make me feel safer, and, a tad rebellious, as, I would not be surprised if O took our guns away. He scares me.

Yeah.. first time I read that book in Russian long time ago... Just to let you know that book was (and probably still is) read and loved in Russia.

shotgun cartridge = shell

No, that was a response to his admitting that he feels suicidal ("sad" in his words) every now and then.

I think she asked for 'bullets', and he corrected her. You don't fire bullets with a shotgun.

I don't think she meant anything in particular by calling him 'Sunshine' other than as ironic commentary on their antagonistic relationship. It's fairly common in Britain to call people 'Sunshine' when they really mean the opposite.
