A niva would get me there no problems. I might not be able to wind down the window, the brake lights might not work, the interior roof might be falling in on my head, the steat may also be falling off, and the door might not shut properly, but it'll get there.

If you can get it started, of course. Not always easy with a Lada.

are they really that bad, or, is it just a Большая шутка ?

I don't know about there other fine products too much, but the niva, mechanically is pretty good, all the asthetics are crap though. Plastic bits falling off and braking and rust are the main problems.

Because there the best and the worsed of a car rolled into one. Thats how I got into other russian culture.
