I guess I wrote here not very clear. I didn't bought my driving licence or gave any bribe for it. I meant that a driving exam at that time was MUCH easier and formal comparing to present time, at least in my town. And when I wrote about a licence could be bought for $200 in 1995, I meant that "bought" = pay&go: no exams required at all.Originally Posted by Basil77

Originally Posted by Crocodile

Originally Posted by Ramil

I just want to say that I don't WANT to drive at all! I don't like driving, particularly not on the motorway. I'd much rather have a guy drive me around, lol!
But we live in a world where women have to take care of themselves, and at a moment I am a "single successful career woman" or whatever... Frankly, it is embarrassing not to be able to drive.. ! It ruins my professional image.
(The trouble was, none of my parents were around to teach me when I was younger, and after I moved to England the left-hand traffic really spooked me for several years. If not for this, I would probably have got it by now.)
Example of times when it would be good to know how to drive:
1) Visiting America - as far as I understand, you can't get anywhere there without a car and they don't actually have a decent public transport system at all. No respectable person travels by bus there... My sister and I would like to go on a "road trip" across the USA, but she does not have a driving licence either... So one of us need to get it before we can go...
2) Travelling in the countryside anywhere in Europe.
3) If you want to live somewhere rural...

Here is the situation with Russian driving licences in the UK at least. I think it's similar elsewhere in Europe.
[quote:3on94gs7]Question: If a Russian citizen has a Russian driving licence then a marries a UK citizen and and moves to the UK, how do they get a UK driving licence? Does the person have to take another driving test in the UK or is the Russian driving licence deemed good enough for that person to just be issued with a UK driving licence?[/quote:3on94gs7]Veteran Posts: 187 00252525 Location: Oxfordshire and St Petersburg As a driving instructor i can answer this one! A russian would need a Russian driving licence to drive in the UK. This would be valid for 12 months after which time they would need to take a UK driving test for a UK licence. check out the DVLA at http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/drvingb.htm
After 12 months of unlimited practice with the Russian licence it ought to be possible to pass an EU driving test...
Ok so if the price is more like USD 2000-3000 they'd probably want even more from me as a foreigner and non-resident... I can still afford it no probs, but it's not an in insignificant sum and I'd want to be sure it would solve my problem before I'd spend it.
Sorry, Johanna, I'm not poking on you or so, but that phrase reminds me of "single female lawyer from Futurama" . Sorry again, but I just couldn't hold myself.Originally Posted by Johanna
Btw, money isn't the key thing here. To perform this you have to ask "proper" people. And even if you will meet some, I strongly doubt that they could arrange this to a foreigner.Ok so if the price is more like USD 2000-3000 they'd probably want even more from me as a foreigner and non-resident... Yeah, finding the 'right' people is probably most important than the money itself for successful bribery.
