Я изучаю политологию / Моя специальность - политология

What is the difference between these two phrases? I think, but am not sure, that the first refers just to a subject, not a career . I study Politology as a subject in my studies of Secret Agent ; and the second phrase refers to the phase of studient, to become a политолог that is: Моя специальность (в университете) - политология means: I'm studying to become a politologue. Is it like this?

    Я изучаю политологию. — I study politology.

Моя специальность — политология. — I study politology (at university) / I work as a politologist. It depends on what you are talking about. The seond variant sounds more like an argument or affirmation.

No, that's correct. It's "political science."

At least he didn't say политическая наука)

It would be more like: "I study in the university and major in Political Science."

I think it's best to say "Я учусь на политолога." That's why I-то would say, at least, since Political Science is my major in university.

In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

For some reason Russian Language textbooks in English overuse the phrase "ya izuchayu."

For example take the conversation: What do you do? I'm a student. What are you studying? I'm studying political science.

In a textbook, they would say Chem ty zanimaesh'sya. Ya student. Chto ty izuchaesh'? Ya izuchayu politologiyu.

But in fact, you don't really hear Russians talking like this. They would usually ask "Na kogo uchish'sya?" And you can answer "Na politologa."

In my opinion the sentence "ya izuchayu politologiyu" in Russian just means that you are studying the given subject, but it doesn't imply that it is your specialty or future profession - maybe you just read political books in your spare time as a hobby.
