When I visited Russia, the common word used was туалет for toilet or restroom. I was reading an early 1960s book which used уборная. In what context is уборная normally used?
The Oxford Dictionary did not help me understand it. The dictionary going from English to Russian has the two words being equal. The Russian to English section gave primary meaning of уборная as a dressing room at theater. I assume it would have a toilet in the dressing room. Is уборная a special term to theater and acting?
How do the meaning differ?
thanks for the help,
