Actually, I consciously avoid using
Cr@p. See what happens? Plain and honest :-) gets substituted with a picture. Since nobody in his right mind would substitute a single ) it looks more 'aesthetic' to my taste.
Well, laziness plays a big role too.

What I learned today is that this habit is peculiar only the Russians. I thought this is universal.

I think it may also be used in various other former soviet countries. I know it's used in Ukraine (not surprising as half of them speak Russian )

But it's definitely not used in Western Europe or America.
