    тыльный or задний?

What is the difference between these 2 adjectives; how would I know which to use?
I wrote 'тыльная дверь' and it got corrected to 'задняя дверь' by my teacher. I guess this is just the way 'backdoor' is said, but aside from that, I can't see a difference in meaning or use between the 2.

"Задний" is appropriate for 99% of sentences dealing with smth rear.

    "Тыльный":
    1. army, deep behind the frontline (в нашем тылу; в тылу врага)
    2. hand (тыльная стороны ладони)

Ah, okay. Thats easy then. "Задний" always, unless it's army or hands. Thanks.

It's not about army, but about territories far behind front lines.

Part of my little humorous poem about cold war times:
    Белок энергию в нас вдунул,
    Ковались плуги и мечи,
    Но враг недоброе задумал,
    Решил испортить нам харчи,
Злой гений зол был и талантлив,
С голладских гор в глубокий тыл,
    Отряд несушек-диверсантов,
    На парашютах сброшен был,
    Сальмонелёз прямо с мороза,
    Проник в тылы советских кур,
    Страна застыла пред угрозой,
    А Сталин сделал перекур,
Note, that "Проник в тылы советских кур," humorously means "Enters into soviet chickens from behind". It's another applicable context.

    Albumen/protein energy breathed into us
    Forged ploughs and swords,
But the enemy has conceived evil-ly,
    Decided to spoil our food,
The evil genius was of evils, and clever, (зол = genitive plural)
With Dutch mountains in deep rear, (far behind?)
A squad of layers of saboteurs,
    In parachutes were dropped,
(Like?) Salmonella* straight from the freeze/freezing weather,
He/it penetrates into the rears of soviet chickens,
The country froze before the threat,
But Stalin had a smoking break...

    *food poisoning

The line about the chickens; is it meant to represent some lack of preparedness of the Russian military? A 'play on words'; as in the 'rear guard' (the ones far behind front lines) = (hen's) rears/arses?
And why Dutch mountains? ( I think that's what it says...) Obviously there are no real mountains in Holland, is it a joke?
Sounds like the start of a long epic satirical poem to me. Is it long?

Yes, arses. Yep, "holland mountains" are for humorous effect.
    It's not very long:

    Я помню времена лихие,
    Струился мощью алый флаг,
    Усов портреты золотые,
    (moustaches are allegory to Stalin)
(it's idiomatic "молот/топор раздаётся" as shortage of "раздаётся громкий звук" / emit loud sound)
    В ослабших от труда руках,
    Но вождь, конечно, не сдавался,
    Он понимал дела в белкАх,
С сиреной зычной, в белой волге,
(волга is for "high class" soviet automobile)
    Побрит, обут, одет, умыт,
    С этапа снятый за недолго,
("снять с этапа" is for "cancel transportation to prison")
    В Сибирь был послан Айболит,
("доктор Айболит" is soviet adaptation of "Dr. Dolittle")
    Ректальный градусник и хлорка,
    Подняли на ноги страну,
    Капитализму вышла порка,
    А мы... восславим старину.
    P.S.
"The evil genius was angry and clever"
"From holland mountains (they flew) into (our) deep rear,"

Salmonella(bacteria) (straight from the freeze/freezing weather,)
("прямо с мороза" phrase raises association of a someone who enters into house from cold winter covered in frost, in the clouds of frozen fog, exhalating frozen fog, and he immidiately begin to do something, without breaking for warming)

Thanks, I'll have a go at translating that.
