    точно vs. ровно

Hello, is there a significant difference between точно and ровно? Both mean something like "precise, exact" but I wondered when you would use one over the other.

I heard more "ровно" when people are speaking about the time. Is that just a coincidence or is there a reason?

It isnt coincidence. Ровно - only about time. Точно= exactly!

"ровно" can be literally translated as "equally". Normally it is used when one speaks about exact correspondence in number and quantity. So it is good when speaking about time.

"точно" usually describes correspondence in something not countable, in quality.
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?

    Чередование, однако.

    Re: точно vs. ровно

Tochno = precisely, exactly (more often about location, "tochno v tsentr" - "right into the center")
Rovno = straight, precisely (when talking about time, this variant is better: "rovno v 4 chasa" - "at 4:00"; otherwise, it's the same as tochno: "rovno po linii")

These examples cover only a part of meanings. Talking about digital precision, "tochno" is better: "high precision" = "vysokaya tochnost'" (not "rovnost'"!)
