    "Парочка синяков осталась"

I do understand the meaning behind, but for some reasons fail to understand the grammar structure behind.

why not Парочке осталась синяков ? the genitive plural form indicates the numerous scratches / blue spots they got during the event... in terms of losses, low points etc.
but why didn't they use the word ОСТАЛАСЬ w/ dative?

    Thanks ,
    no pain, no gain

Парочка синяков осталось/осталась - a couple of bruises were left [on somebody's face, for example]

Context never hurts, by the way!
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

One way to say this phrase:
ОсталАсь парочка синяков. = A couple of blue spots remained.

    парочка - A couple - subject - nominative
синяков - of blue spots - object - genitive is typical for the preposition "of"
осталась - remained - predicate, agreed with subject in gender (парочка - feminine).

    What is the problem?

P.S. You see, the case system is used somehow instead of prepositions to detect what is said about. If it were dative: "Парочке остались синяки" - "Blue spots remained for the couple", the sense is rather different.
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?

    thanks for the prompt replies!

in the meanwhile, the headline on gazeta.ru has been corrected to осталАсь

    вот теперь всё ясно
lots of bruises were left on the couple - (not word by word...but I do get the glimpse now)

I'll be coming up with basic questions here and there in the upcoming days - getting back into Russian language - gladly -
thanks again to all the replies in no time !
