The clue here is the usage of роман (it can be шоколадка, автомобиль, anything). If you use роман as in абзац из романа "Мастер и Маргарита" you must not use declension, but if the word роман is omitted you will have to use any of the declensions required.

Other examples, with 'Master and Margarita' it is very illustrative:

Он шёл по аллее, зажав под мышкой "Мастера и Маргариту". (compare, Он шёл по аллее, зажав под мышкой роман "Мастер и Маргарита".)
Она стояла посреди площади и размахивала "Мастером и Маргаритой" (compare, Она стояла посреди площади и размахивала книгой "Мастер и Маргарита")

So it all depends on whether you use роман (or книга in one of the examples), the same will grammatically apply to шоколадка "Марс", etc. (it's a simple grammatical rule)
