I have a vague suspition that the phrase "Thanks for the clarification" sounds a bit humorous because of the word "clarification", too. Am I wrong?
Nah, it's not really humorous, it's a tad formal even but not too much. Standard phrase. Equivalent to "thanks for shedding light on the issue".
