Obo znachyat' clarify.
What is the difference when you clarify with the first and you clarify with the second?
E.g. The President clarify that he will not send troops to Slovenia.
E.g. He didn't clarify what was the real reasons for his resignment.

"Прояснять-прояснить" means "to clarify the whole situation", it is normally used with a direct object.

"Пояснять-пояснить" means "to explain something in particular", normally followed by a clause.

It really depends on the point of view of the person speaking, but I would translate it like that:

"Президент пояснил, что он не пошлёт войска в Словению"
"Он не пояснил, какие были причины его увольнения".

A simple example please with прояснять.
Мы должны прояснить или пояснить ситуацию?

Main difference is that "пояснять" used only when reffereing to somebody who explain things, and "прояснять" used for both persons and objects\information\facts etc.
Also, you can use "пояснять" in constructions like "пояснил, что ...(далее пояснение)", but not "пояснил <somthing>, пояснил ситуацию". On the other hand "прояснить" literally means "to make somthing clear", so we use it to say "прояснить ситуацию".
"Этот человек пояснил, что... or <пояснение>... - Пояснил этот человек" - Correct
"Этот человек прояснил ситуацию" - Correct
"Этот человек пояснил ситуацию" - Incorrect
"Новые факты прояснили ситуацию" - Correct
"Новые факты пояснили ситуацию" - Incorrect
