Пожалуйста, вы можете объяснить, какое различие есть между словами "отдать" и "дать". В словаре, оба слова значят "to give".

отдать - the same as give away, like give something into somebody's possession for ever, or at least for a very long time. For that reason most oftenly used in expressions like:

отдать долг

дать - just to give

Come to think of it. Отдать can also mean "give back".

An example:

There are two children playing. Josh has this amazing toy his friend Anthony wants to play with. He asks Josh:

Дай мне эту игрушку?

Josh has done so but after some time has passed he wants his amazing toy back. So he tells Anthony:

Отдай мою игрушку
