    In order to avoid confusion in my small head I will use идти / пойти for public transportation and exat'/poexat' for car/motorcycle/bicycle. Fair?

    I'd say that "идти" about public or freight transport is used mostly when described its activity according to some time schedule.

    Planes are exception, yes.
