Depending on the context it can be:

    1) flower. The one that blossoms in late winter or early spring while the snow is still there. It's rather popular, there are a lot of poems about this flower.

    2) (cops slang) a corpse that was hidden under the snow and was found at spring when the snow began to melt.

    3) the humorous name for a car driver, who newer drives his car in winter, and whose car often remains all the winter under the snow.

thanks for the interesting uses of подснежник. Here's the context:

На лесных полянах робко показались первые подснежники.
