I haven't focused too much about this word (I may have 30 words to check in a page), but is it something with a place in Russian culture?
I haven't heard of it in modern times, except those in African and Amazon tribes.

The same about сглаз "evil eye", first time to hear.

it's not part of culture, but some people still believe it, so some make money out of it claiming that they have some extra powers.
