    Накатывает

    "Расстались?"
    "Не ну как? Я же люблю ее.... оступилась бывает. Просто иногда накатывает."


    What does накатывает mean? Also, I'm not sure i understand what he means by оступилась

    оступиться means to misstep. So he thinks that she did something wrong, but he also knows she didn't want to do that.

    накатывает - we use this word to say that strong emotions overcome us, especially anger, hatred or offense.

    E.g. Иногда на меня такая злоба накатывает, что я просто хочу кого-нибудь разорвать голыми руками.

    Грусть/тоска/ностальгия/депрессия can накатывать, too.
    Think of a big sea wave running into the shore.
    So, накатывать = to insensibly arise (approximately)
