Thread: На любовь, а может - на беду

Привет!
Что значит "На любовь, а может - на беду,?" Может быть ту любовь, которую он испытывает, тоже причинить беду к ним?

I'm not sure that is a very meaningful text, but I'll try to give my interpretation. I'd say the promise [of the guy to steal the girl] is about two possible outcomes: it could either end with the happy life together (aka "На любовь") or with the bitter separation when they find out they are not the most perfect match together (aka "на беду"). Either way, the guy does not really care at this very moment only thinking about how much he desires the girl.

just to add some more words,

На любовь, а может - на беду, Светлая, когда-то суеверная - Украду тебя я, украду!

means "I will steal you, and this will end in either love or suffering (беда)" i would say here that "на беду" might also mean that something bad could happen because of it, not necessarily that it's a bad match, but somebody might interfere if he steals her, or something like that (but the bad match idea also seems very likely to be true).

на беду, на любовь - are poetic forms here.
