Thread: Можно и Возможно

What is the difference between these two words?

As far as I can tell they both mean "it is possible".

And another thing, why is it better to ask, "У тебя всё хорошо?", rather than "Тебе всё хорошо?"?

I read that "category of state" words eg. (холодно, нужно и хорошо) always go with a pronoun in the Dative case. For example, "Мне холодно".

Можно - it is permissible; one may
Возможно - it is possible; one can

"У тебя всё хорошо?"
Всё, что есть у тебя в норме, и все твои дела идут хорошо?
"Are you all right?"


"Тебе всё хорошо?"
Всё, что в данный момент тебя окружает или о чём мы говорим, тебе подходит?
"Is this all right?"
Например вы примеряете ботинки. И цвет, и размер, и все другие параметры тебе подходят?

"Тебе всё хорошо?" is not commonly used. Я бы так не сказала.

Тебе хорошо? - it's about "his/her state".
У тебя всё хорошо? - it's about "state of affairs", not "his/her state".

Возможно - It is a possibility (neutral, general)

Examples will illustrate it better:
Можно пойти в туалет? (may I go to the toilet, is it possible to go to the toilet)
Возможно, что он не прав (it is possible he is wrong)
здесь можно курить? (can one smoke here, is it possible to smoke here)
всё на свете возможно! (anything is possible in the world)

1. Возможно = скорее всего = наверное (эти слова несут разную степень вероятности)

2. Можно = разрешите (только для примеров типа "Можно пойти в туалет")

3. Можно сказать также "Здесь возможно курить?" подразумевая в вопросе ФИЗИЧЕСКУЮ возможность курить в данном месте, т..е позволяет ли окружающая обстановка курить в данном месте (смогу ли я зажечь сигарету, затянуться и т.д.) Это прежложение эквивалентно предложению "Здесь можно курить?"

No. «Для вас/тебя всё в порядке» is not commonly used either.
Google finds only a few examples most of which are translations from other languages.
