Sounds very vulgar. And I doubt that "малыш" is appropriate (it is a masculine noun), maybe "детка" is more correct here. But then you will sound exactly like Beavis & Butthead in Russian translation

It's not vulgar, but it's very intimate. I wouldn't say "малыш" to a girl who is not my girlfriend.
"Детка" is not good either. "Детка" suggests your superiority. It may be OK between close frieds or g/f-b/f.

Frankly, I have seen australians saying "Hey Love", even though they were only friends. This is unrelated with the previous sentence
