The issue was resolved of when to use кто and который:
    1. ... существительное, который ...
    2. ... прилагательное, кто ...

Based on the same reasoning I have noticed that when we use the местоимение: тот, та, то, те immediately after we use что.

    Example 1 (From a book):
    1. Никогда не обещай того, что не можешь сделать = Never promise what you cannot do
Example 2 (Mine with probable mistakes)
    2. Избегай того, что притворяется, что он твой друг = Avoid that person, who pretends that he is your friend

    Correct?

I am asking because as a foreigner I was tempted to use the structure: тот, который = that person, who.

Чем больше слов, тем меньше они стоят.
