    интендантский

Can someone explain to me (in Russian or in English) what this word mean?

    - Приступ "интендантского безумия" случился с немцами и под Сталинградом.

It seems to be rare because I don't know this word. I never heard it. Looking at your post, I can guess that you are reading something connected with WWII. I guess it is a historical word. I tried to find what that means via the Internet but failed to find anything that could help us. Hope others will know or find a good encyclopedia containing the word.

Интендант - теперь в российской армии это называется зампотыл
Не понятно, что такое "интендантское безумие"

It basically means that the Germans made some very bad—bad to the point of insanity—mistakes in supplying their troops or in calculating the requires supplies or something like that.

    It also could mean this:
When German troops were rounded up near Stalingrad, the Germans tried to supply it by airplanes. With 300 thousand people encircled it was insane.
    Ilkay, we need wider context.

It seems to me that you all agree that this word is very rare. I don't think you will ever need it. Though no one ever knows for sure what he'll need.

    Here's the whole paragraph:

    - Приступ "интендантского безумия" случился с немцами и под Сталинградом. Непонятно, как Гитлер мог надеяться, что снабжение Шестой армии удастся осуществить по одной железнодорожной колее с подспорьем в виде допотопных грузовиков и транспортных самолетов.

    Вот и ответ

Схема снабжения немецкий войск кажется автору безумием, которое он окрестил как "интендантское" в честь "интендантов", которые, как уже было сказано выше, заведовали продснабжением и т.п.

    окрестил
That's what the author of this article did! I want to repeat that I don't think it's necessary to learn such words.
