Is it more like bug/glitches or hallucinations?

Google translate says it's bug/glitches by the dual-language book I'm reading (Metro 2033) translates it to hallucinations-- which seems to make more sense...looking for some verificaiton

As I can see, the words bugs and glitches in English are not associated with psyche or psychology. As Артем is a human being and not a robot (I suppose so, I haven’t read the book) then his hearing the noise should be called hallucination.

In Russian глюк denotes a fault both in computer programs/systems and in human mental processes. The former is neutral and is commonly used being at the same time kind of professional slang with synonymous words сбой, ошибка. The latter is obviously kind of young people’s slang, with synonymous words галлюцинация (neutral), галюники (slang).

Originally it was a colloquial shortening of "hallucination" and gain a wide spread as a description of phenomenon when "you see something wrong or unexpected".

Later among IT-crowd (and then everywhere) it became popular particularly as an observed occurrence of non-documented behavior of software. Still colloquial and informal. The word is well known in both meanings for people below, let us say, 45.

Yes I know the terms quite well, but they could be used ironiclaly... "Do you have glitches in your system, buddy?"

I have no doubts, Valda, that you know them. I didn’t mean to teach you. I was only trying to show how I understand them in order to make my conclusions. That’s why I was proceeding with “As I can see...”

Now I see that if you can use them ironically then both resourses are correct, google and your dual-language book. Just like in Russian.
