    вестись от

After a story several questions are made about its argument. The first of these questions is: "От чьего имени ведётся рассказ?". What I would translate as: "About whose name (the name of which person) goes the story?". But "вестись от" is not in my dictionary. And вестись has the meaning of "to be usual, customary". No doubt it has a meaning not included in the dictionary. Which is it? Thank you.

    Re: вестись от

вести рассказ - to narrate the story
so вестись is "to be narrated" here
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

Thank you. The phrase is somewhat... So, with your help I translate: "In the name of which person is narrated the story?" and it fits well with the story, where a girl tells what has happened to her. Спасибо.

    Re: от имени

    In the name of
Совершенно верно, "от" здесь относится не к "вестись", это часть выражения "от чьего-либо имени".

I have strong doubts about the "In the name of" phrase here. Wouldn’t "From which character’s perspective (view) is the story narrated?" be more appropriate?

No doubt your translation is more elegant than mine. I (a beginner) can't say if it keeps more the meaning of the question. I will keep them and see both every time I read this lesson. OK? Thanks.
