Thread: более 1,5 тысяч аварий или более 1,5 тысячи аварий ?

Reading an article about the effects of a strong fall of snow I read:
"Только в Южной Каролине за одни сутки было зарегистрировано более 1,5 тысяч аварий".
According with the rules I have it should be
"...более [одной целой] [пяти десятых тысячи] аварий". Since there are "five decimals of one thousand".
Perhaps my rules need some addenda or corrigenda. Can you throw some light in the darkness? Thank you.

It should be grouped in this way:
"...более [одной целой и пяти десятых] тысяч аварий".
or
"...более полутора тысяч аварий".

I have found it. Really it says "более полутора тысяч". With полтора аfter every case, save nom. and acus., gen plural must be used.
