It's not always negative.
бесшабашная is not negative
a risk-taker, a daredevil
What a beautiful word...... :)

Sounds like an approval to me
My dictionary: "бесшабашный" -- restless, turbulent.
But, these translation are missing the slightly negative meaning of the word -- its not also "restless", but a bit of "foolish"/"unwise"/etc.
The movie "Stark Raving Mad" -- name translated to Russian "Бесшабашное ограбление" (http://www.kinoafisha.ru/index.php3?id1=1199&status=1)
